First African American Woman to serve on the Virginia Beach School Board/City Council



Louisa, one of Virginia’s highly respected business women for the last 30 years, is a master coach and motivational speakerwhose specialties include Executive Coaching for business leaders; corporate human resource development for private corporations, and organization development including outreachin the transportation and health care industries. During her tenure as president of LSA Consulting USA, she has counseled and coached thousands of individuals and companies on emotional intelligence and, how to start and maintain a business at corporations and state and federal agencies through seminars and coaching sessions. In addition, she served with distinction on the school board and city council for the City of Virginia Beach where she created the Minority Business Council. This city council appointed advisory group works with city agencies and the public to increase the number of minority and women owned companies who have procurement contracts with the city. She was honored for the creation of the successful STARS program which was designed to train and coach Small, Women-Owned and Minority Businesses (SWaM) during her term as the Director of Business Assistance for Governor Tim Kaine. Shewas also honored by the Small Business Administration, the NAACP, the National Urban League and many other groups.Her passion for helping small businesses gained her the reputation throughout Virginia as a leader, philanthropist and mentor. Ms. Strayhorn also served as the Executive Director of Pharrell Williams’ From One Hand to Another (FOHTA) Education Centers where, in four years, she increased to 1500 the number of students served.

Ms. Strayhorn was recently appointed as a Commissioner for the Virginia Port Authority for a five-year term by Governor Terry McAuliffe.
